How to play Chip n Win

A game you play during your normal round. It takes a minute to learn.

Chip n Win is a game you play during your normal round of golf. It takes a minute to learn and works for 2, 3 or 4 players of any ability, alongside stroke play, Stableford or match play.

What's in the set

  • 16 chips: 8 green for good moments and 8 red for bad ones
  • A clip-on carry case
  • An instruction card

The rules

  1. Clip on and play. Clip the case to a bag and tee off as normal.
  2. Win a chip. When you do what's on a chip, take it. Make a birdie, take the Birdie chip. Three-putt, take the 3 Putts chip.
  3. Pass it on. There's only one of each chip. If another player does the same thing later in the round, they take it from you.
  4. Count up. After the last hole, each green chip is +1 and each red chip is -1. The highest total wins.

The 16 chips

Green chips (+1): Birdie, Eagle, 1 Putt, Chip In, Sand Save, Nearest the Pin, 3 Pars in a Row, 2 Birdies in a Row.

Red chips (-1): Lost Ball, Water, Sand, Hit a Tree, 3 Putts, 7, 8, Lost Temper.

Common questions

Does it slow the round down?

No. Chips change hands as you walk off each green, so the round runs at its normal pace.

Do handicaps matter?

No handicaps need changing. A bad hole still gives you a chance to win chips back, so everyone is in it until the 18th.

What if we lose a chip?

Every chip is sold on its own in replacement chips.

How it works

Simple rules. Serious banter.

Chip n Win is the competitive on-course game that turns a normal round into a battle for bragging rights. Earn green chips for great shots and red chips for the mishaps, pass them on whenever someone else matches the moment, and the highest score on the 18th wins.

Full rules
How many players can take part?

Chip n Win is played during your normal round in a 2, 3 or 4 ball.

What's included in the set?

Every set includes 16 premium chips (8 green, 8 red), a durable case with chip pouches and a carabiner clip for your golf bag, and 4 quick-start instruction cards.

How do I play?

All chips start in the case. Each chip represents a different golf moment.

  • Do something that matches a chip? Take that chip.
  • If someone else does it after you? Give the chip to them.
  • If no one does it after you? Keep the chip.

On the 18th, green chips are +1 and red chips are −1. The highest score wins. Example: 4 green and 2 red = +2.

Is it suitable for all abilities?

Yes. Chips reward and penalise golf moments rather than handicaps, so anyone in the group can win, whatever their level.

Can I buy in bulk for a golf club, society or event?

Yes. We offer bulk orders and wholesale pricing for golf clubs, societies, tournaments and charity days, and custom cases are available. Email info@chipnwin.co.uk for a quote.

What is your returns policy?

You can request a return within 30 days of receiving your order, as long as it's unused and in its original packaging. Email info@chipnwin.co.uk to start a return, or read the full refund policy.
